Você já conhece my, your, her. Quando você não quer repetir a coisa, troca para mine, yours, hers: my book → mine.
my book = mine
This is my book. = This book is mine.
That is your seat. = That seat is yours.
It is her bag. = The bag is hers.
Not "This book is my." — say "This book is mine.". Sem nenhuma coisa depois, my vira mine.
Experimente: That seat is ___. (yours / your / your's) Resposta: yours — Aqui não vem nada depois, então use yours, não your (your precisa de uma coisa depois, tipo "your seat"). E não tem apóstrofo: yours.
O conjunto completo
Aqui está o conjunto correspondente: I → mine, you → yours, he → his, she → hers, we → ours, they → theirs. Repare: his continua his, e não tem -s em mine (não "mines").
Is this pen yours? No, it is his.
These tickets are ours, not theirs.
The red coat is hers.
Experimente: This phone isn't yours, it's ___.
Se você quiser nomear a coisa, volte para my, your, her.
Those keys are theirs. (not "theirs keys")
Is this yours? (not "yours bag")
It is her phone. = The phone is hers.
Not "That is hers bag." — say "That is her bag. / That bag is hers.". Nomeia a coisa → her bag. Sem coisa depois → hers.
Experimente: Those are ___ keys. (their / theirs / theirs') Resposta: their — Aqui tem uma coisa logo depois (keys), então use their + keys. "Theirs" fica sozinho, sem nada depois: "Those keys are theirs."
Experimente: Is this ___ umbrella? No, I think it's ___. (your … hers / yours … hers / your … her) Resposta: your … hers — O primeiro espaço tem uma coisa depois (umbrella) → your umbrella. O segundo fica sozinho → hers. Uma coisa depois pede your/her; sozinho pede yours/hers.
