Not "How many water do you drink?" — say "How much water do you drink?". لا يمكن عدّ الماء، لذلك استخدم much، لا many.

Not "How much hours do you work?" — say "How many hours do you work?". يمكن عدّ الساعات، لذلك استخدم many، لا much.

a lot of تصلح للنوعين
لكمية كبيرة في جملة مثبتة، استخدم a lot of. تصلح للنوعين، ما يُعد وما لا يُعد: a lot of friends، a lot of time. وبدون اسم بعدها، أسقط of: Yes, a lot.
There are a lot of restaurants in this area. (you count restaurants)
We have a lot of homework to do tonight. (you cannot count homework)
Do you drink a lot of coffee? Yes, a lot.
Not "I have a lot friends." — say "I have a lot of friends.". قبل الاسم، احتفظ بـ of: a lot of friends. أسقط of فقط عندما لا يأتي اسم بعدها.
جرّب بنفسك: We have ___ homework to do this weekend. (a lot of / much / many) الإجابة: a lot of — في جملة مثبتة، استخدم a lot of لكمية كبيرة: a lot of homework. "Much homework" تبدو خاطئة في جملة مثبتة، وhomework لا يمكن عدّها، لذلك "many" لا تناسب.
