数えられるものには many を使います：how many cups? 数えられないものには much を使います：how much coffee? a lot of はどちらにも使えます。

Not "How much cups do we need?" — say "How many cups do we need?". カップは数えられるので many と言います。

否定の文で：not much, not many
not を使う文や疑問文では、ふつう much と many を使います：not much time、not many cars。

lots of（たくさんの）
lots of は a lot of と同じ意味です。こちらのほうがくだけた言い方です。
We have lots of time.

少しだけ：a few, a little
a few + 数えられるものは「少しの数」という意味です：a few apples。a little + 数えられないものは「少しの量」という意味です：a little water。形容詞の前の a little は「少し」という意味です：a little cold。

Not "Can I have a few milk?" — say "Can I have a little milk?". 牛乳は数えられないので a little と言います。

多すぎる：too much, too many
too many と too much は「多すぎる」という意味です。数えられるものには too many、数えられないものには too much を使います。

There's too much noise here.
Not "There are too much cars on this street." — say "There are too many cars on this street.". 車は数えられるので too many と言います。
