不可数的东西（时间、钱、水），用 much。它常用在疑问句和否定句里：How much …?、not much …、too much …。要在肯定句里说数量很多，英语更常用 a lot of（后面会学到）。
不可数的东西用 much
How much time do you have? (you cannot count time)
I do not have much money this week. (negative)
She does not eat much meat, and that is too much sugar for one cup.
Not "How many water do you drink?" — say "How much water do you drink?". 水是数不了的，所以用 much，不用 many。
试一试: We do not have ___ time before the meeting starts. (much / many / a lot) 答案: much — 时间是数不了的，这句又是否定句，所以用 much。"Many" 用于可数的东西，"a lot" 后面跟名词时要加 of（a lot of time）。

可数的东西（复数名词：hours、people、restaurants），用 many。跟 much 一样，常用在疑问句和否定句里：How many …?、not many ….
How many hours do you work every day? (you can count hours)
There are not many people at the party yet. (negative)
How many languages do you speak?
Not "How much hours do you work?" — say "How many hours do you work?". 小时是可以数的，所以用 many，不用 much。
试一试: How ___ restaurants are there in Downtown Haffenville? (many / much / a lot of) 答案: many — 餐厅是可以数的，这句又是疑问句，所以用 many。"Much" 用于不可数的东西，而 "How a lot of restaurants" 不是正确的英语。
a lot of 两种情况都能用
在肯定句里说数量很多，用 a lot of。它可数、不可数都能用：a lot of friends、a lot of time。如果后面不加名词，就把 of 去掉：Yes, a lot。
There are a lot of restaurants in this area. (you count restaurants)
We have a lot of homework to do tonight. (you cannot count homework)
Do you drink a lot of coffee? Yes, a lot.
Not "I have a lot friends." — say "I have a lot of friends.". 名词前面要保留 of：a lot of friends。只有后面不跟名词时才去掉 of。
试一试: We have ___ homework to do this weekend. (a lot of / much / many) 答案: a lot of — 在肯定句里说数量很多，用 a lot of：a lot of homework。"Much homework" 在肯定句里听起来不对，而且 homework 是数不了的，所以 "many" 也不合适。
试一试: Amina asks: "How ___ sugar and how ___ eggs do we need for the cake?" (much … many / many … much / much … much) 答案: much … many — 糖是数不了的，所以用 much。鸡蛋是可以数的，所以用 many。数不了的用 much，可以数的用 many。
