Am, Is, Are (A1)

I のときは am を使います。短縮形は I'm です。

I → am

• I am here.
• I am a student.
• I'm happy.
• Not "I is here." — say "I am here.". I にだけ am を組み合わせます。is や are にはなりません。
• やってみよう: Hi! I ___ Amina. (am / is / are) 答え: am — I am Amina. I にだけ am を組み合わせます。is や are にはなりません。

he / she / it → is

he, she, it のときは is を使います。

• He is here.
• She is here.
• It is here.
• Not "He are here." — say "He is here.". he, she, it → is です。are になることはありません。
• やってみよう: Sofia ___ my friend. (is / am / are) 答え: is — Sofia is my friend. Sofia は1人の人（she）なので、are ではなく is を使います。

you / we / they → are

you、we、they のときは are を使います。You は1人でも複数でも are を使います。

• You are here.
• We are here.
• They are here.
• Not "They is here." — say "They are here.". we, they と you → are です。is になることはありません。
• やってみよう: They ___ students. (are / is / am) 答え: are — They are students. They は2人以上を表すので、is ではなく are を使います。

am, is, それとも are?

「だれ？」と考えてみましょう。I → am、you → are、he/she/it → is、2つ以上 → are です。

• I am here.

• Not "She are here." — say "She is here.". She は1人の人なので is です。Are は you や2つ以上のときに使います。
• やってみよう: Amina and I ___ ready. (are / am / is) 答え: are — I だけなら am を使いますが、Amina and I は2人を表すので are を使います。
