Have got / Has got (A1 Grammar)

Use have got with I/you/we/they. Use has got with he/she/it. It means the same as have.

Quick tip: have got means the same as have. We use have got more when we speak.

I / you / we / they → have got

Use have got to say what you own. I've got = I have got.

• I have got a watch.
• I've got a dog.
• They have got a big house.

he / she / it → has got

Use has got with he, she, it, and one person or thing. She's got = she has got.

• He has got a hat.
• She's got a cat.
• My uncle has got a wallet.

Negatives

Use haven't got with I/you/we/they, and hasn't got with he/she/it.

• I haven't got an umbrella.
• We haven't got a dog.
• He hasn't got a phone.

Questions

Put Have or Has first. Do not use do.

• Have you got a pen?
• Has she got a cat?
• Have they got a house?

Common mistakes

• Not "She have got a cat." — say "She has got a cat.". With he, she and it, use has got..
• Not "Do you got a pen?" — say "Have you got a pen?". With got, the question starts with Have or Has, not do..
• Not "She is got a hat." — say "She has got a hat.". In She's got, the 's is has, not is..
