Simple Present - Negatives (A1 Grammar)

Use don't and doesn't to say what someone does not do.

Quick tip: don't and doesn't always take the base verb - the -s moves to doesn't.

Negatives: I/you/we/they

Use don't + base verb.

• I don't like coffee.
• You don't work here.
• They don't speak French.

Negatives: he/she/it

Use doesn't + base verb.

• He doesn't work here.
• She doesn't like coffee.
• It doesn't rain much.

Common mistakes

• Not "She don't like it." — say "She doesn't like it.". Use doesn't with he/she/it.
