Ein Phrasal Verb ist ein Verb + eine particle (Partikel: on, off, up), wie turn on und pick up. Die beiden Wörter haben zusammen eine Bedeutung.

Manche lassen sich trennen
Manche dieser Verben lassen sich trennen. Das Objekt kann nach den beiden Wörtern stehen oder in der Mitte: turn off the phone oder turn the phone off.
Turn off the phone.

Probier es aus: Woman: The pizza is ready. Man: Great. Can you ___ the oven off? Wähle aus, was der Mann sagt. (look / turn / run) Antwort: turn — Die Pizza ist fertig, also machen sie den Ofen aus: turn the oven off.
it und them stehen in der Mitte
Wenn das Objekt it oder them ist, stellst du es in die Mitte: turn it off, nicht turn off it.

Not "Turn off it." — say "Turn it off.". it und them stehen in der Mitte.

Manche werden nie getrennt: look for it, run out of it. Das Objekt steht immer am Ende.
