現在または一般的にできることには can + 動詞の原形 を使います。過去にできたことには could を使います。can や could のうしろは、to をつけず、-s もつけずに動詞の原形を使います。
できることを表す can / could
I can swim.
She can speak three languages.
When I was five, I could read.
He couldn't ride a bike last year.
Not "She cans swim. / I can to swim." — say "She can swim. / I can swim.". can のうしろは動詞の原形を使います。-s も to もつけません。
やってみよう: Maria is a great swimmer. She ___ swim very fast. (can / cans / can to) 答え: can — できることを表すには can + 動詞の原形 を使います（She can swim）。can のうしろには -s も（"cans" は不可）、to も（"can to" は不可）つきません。
やってみよう: Last year Tom took lessons. Before that, he ___ ride a bike at all. (couldn't / can't / doesn't) 答え: couldn't — 過去の能力を表すには could / couldn't を使います（he couldn't ride a bike）。"Can't" は現在のことで、"doesn't" は現在の習慣についてであり過去の能力を表すものではありません。
いいかどうか尋ねる Can I ...?
できることを表す can はすでにご存じですね。Can I + 動詞の原形 を使って、それをしてもいいかどうか許可を求めることもできます。
Can I use your phone?
Can I sit here?
Can we leave early today?
やってみよう: ___ I sit here, or is this seat taken? (Can / Do / Am) 答え: Can — してもいいかどうか尋ねるときは Can で始めます（Can I sit here?）。"Do I sit" は習慣について尋ねる表現で、"Am I sit" は正しくない形です。
よりやわらかい Could I ...?
Could I + 動詞の原形 は Can I と同じ意味ですが、よりやわらかく、ていねいに聞こえます。よく知らない相手や、特にていねいに頼みたい時に使います。
Could I borrow your pen, please?
Could I ask you a question?
Could we see the menu, please?
やってみよう: At the bank, Amina asks politely: "___ I speak to the manager, please?" (Could / Do / Should) 答え: Could — Could I は、してもいいかを尋ねるやわらかくていねいな表現です（Could I speak to the manager?）。"Do I speak" は習慣について尋ねる表現で、"Should I" は許可ではなくアドバイスを求める表現です。
人に頼む Could you ...?
相手にていねいに何かをお願いするときは、Could you + 動詞の原形 を使います。うしろに to はつきません。
Could you help me, please?
Could you open the window?
Could you say that again?
Not "Could you to help me?" — say "Could you help me?". could you のうしろに to はつけません。動詞の原形をそのまま続けます。
やってみよう: ___ help me carry these bags, please? (Could you / Could you to / Are you) 答え: Could you — 相手にていねいにお願いするときは Could you + 動詞の原形 を使います（Could you help me?）。to はつけず（"Could you to help" は不可）、"Are you" は何をしているかを尋ねる表現であってお願いする表現ではありません。
やってみよう: You ask two polite favours: "___ I borrow your pen, please? And then ___ you check my spelling for me?" (Could … could / Could … do / Do … could) 答え: Could … could — Could は、自分が何かをしてもいいか尋ねる場合と、相手に何かをお願いする場合の両方に使えます。
