Was / Were (A1)

با I, he, she, it از was استفاده کن.

I / he / she / it: was

I was at home.
He was tired.
It was cold.
Not "I were at home." — say "I was at home.". با I، شکل گذشته was ـه، نه were.
خودت امتحان کن: Last weekend the market ___ very busy. (was / were / is) جواب: was — The market = it، برای همین با was می‌آد، نه were. («Is» حاله، و «last weekend» بهت می‌گه گذشته‌ست.) پس: the market was busy.

با you, we و they از were استفاده کن.

You were late.
We were happy.
They were at school.
Not "They was at school." — say "They were at school.". با they از were استفاده کن؛ was فقط مالِ I, he, she, it ـه.
خودت امتحان کن: Last weekend, Amina and Hiroshi ___ at Magaff Library. (were / was / are) جواب: were — Amina and Hiroshi یعنی they، پس شکلش were ـه، نه was: They were at Magaff Library.

قبل از هر کدوم بپرس: کی؟ I/he/she/it → was. you/we/they → were.

He was here. / They were here.
I was tired. / We were tired.
Not "He were here. / They was here." — say "He was here. / They were here.". اینکه کیه تعیین می‌کنه: was برای I/he/she/it، were برای you/we/they.
خودت امتحان کن: Mei: Was everyone at the park on Saturday? Lars: No. I ___ there, but my friends ___ at the gym! حرف Lars رو کامل کن. (was … were / were … was / was … was) جواب: was … were — Lars می‌گه I → was. His friends یعنی they → were. هر کدوم رو این تعیین می‌کنه که کی باشه.

بعد از was یا were کلمه‌ی not اضافه کن: wasn't (I/he/she/it)، weren't (you/we/they).

I wasn't hungry.
He wasn't there.
They weren't happy.
Not "I not was hungry." — say "I wasn't hungry.". اون not بعد از was می‌آد، نه قبلش.
خودت امتحان کن: She ___ at home last night. (wasn't / weren't / not was) جواب: wasn't — She با was می‌آد، پس منفیش wasn't ـه (نه weren't)، و not بعدش می‌آد: She wasn't at home.

برای سؤال پرسیدن، Was یا Were رو قبل از شخص بذار.

Was she at home?
Were you late?
Was it cold?
Not "You were late? (asking)" — say "Were you late?". توی سؤال، اول were می‌آد، بعد شخص.
خودت امتحان کن: Camila: The children are inside now, and they look very cold. Hiroshi: ___ outside all morning? سؤالِ Hiroshi رو کامل کن. (Were they / They were / They was) جواب: Were they — برای سؤال، اول Were می‌آد و آدم‌ها بعدش. یه جواب آدم‌ها رو اول می‌ذاره، که این‌جوری یه چیزی رو به کسی خبر می‌دی، نه اینکه سؤال بپرسی. اون یکی از was استفاده می‌کنه، که مالِ I، he، she، it ـه، نه they.
خودت امتحان کن: Remember: who is it? Mei ___ at the cooking class. (was / were / are) جواب: was — Mei یعنی she → was. (این همون انتخاب اصلیه: I/he/she/it → was، you/we/they → were.)
