برای پرسیدن اینکه یکی چی کار می‌کنه، با کلمه‌ی سؤالی شروع کن، بعد do یا does، بعد شخص، بعد فعلِ ساده. برای he, she, it از does؛ برای I, you, we, they از do استفاده کن. کلمه‌ی سؤالی می‌تونه where (جا)، what (چیز)، یا when (زمان) باشه.
پرسیدن درباره‌ی کاری که آدم‌ها می‌کنن
Amina lives in Haffenville. → Where does Amina live?
They work near the library. → Where do they work?
Mei likes apples. → What does Mei like?
Mei cooks in the evening. → When does Mei cook?
Not "Where does Amina lives? ("lives" after does)" — say "Where does Amina live? (with does, the action word is plain)". بعد از does، کلمه‌ی ساده رو به کار ببر: live، نه «lives».
فعل be یا فعل معمولی؟
اول به جمله نگاه کن. اگه از قبل is / are / am داره، اون فعل be رو ببر اول: She is happy. → Is she happy? اگه یه فعل معمولی مثل work, live, read داره، از do یا does استفاده کن: She works. → Does she work?
She is happy. → Is she happy? (has is)
She works. → Does she work? (has an action word)
They are ready. → Are they ready? (has are)
They live here. → Do they live here? (has an action word)
Not "Is she work? (there is no be-word in "She works")" — say "Does she work? (an action word needs does)". جمله is / are / am نداره؟ پس از do یا does استفاده کن، نه فعل be.
خودت امتحان کن: «Lars works.» رو سؤالی کن. کدوم درسته؟ (Does Lars work? / Is Lars work? / Do Lars work?) جواب: Does Lars work? — «Lars works» یه فعل معمولی داره و is / are / am نداره، پس از does استفاده کن: Does Lars work? «Is Lars work?» دنبال یه فعل be می‌گرده که توی جمله نیست، و «Do Lars work?» برای یه نفر باید does باشه.
خودت امتحان کن: «Mei is happy.» رو سؤالی کن. کدوم درسته؟ (Is Mei happy? / Does Mei happy? / Does Mei be happy?) جواب: Is Mei happy? — «Mei is happy» از قبل فعل be یعنی is رو داره، پس ببرش اول: Is Mei happy? اینجا فعل معمولی نیست، پس does جایی نداره.
خودت امتحان کن: Amina works near the park. بپرس Amina کجا کار می‌کنه. جواب: Where does Amina work? — با Where شروع کن، بعد does، بعد کلمه‌ی ساده‌ی work: Where does Amina work? با does جلوش، فعل ساده می‌مونه.
خودت امتحان کن: They live near the supermarket. بپرس اونا کجا زندگی می‌کنن. جواب: Where do they live? — با they از do استفاده کن (نه does): Where do they live? does رو برای he, she, it نگه دار. بعد از هر دو، فعل ساده می‌مونه.
خودت امتحان کن: Mei reads at eight o'clock. بپرس Mei کِی می‌خونه. جواب: When does Mei read? — با When شروع کن، بعد does، بعد کلمه‌ی ساده‌ی read: When does Mei read? با does جلوش، فعل ساده می‌مونه.
پرسیدنِ «چطور»
برای پرسیدنِ اینکه کسی چطور یه کاری رو انجام می‌ده، با How شروع کن، بعد do یا does، بعد شخص، بعد کلمه‌ی ساده.
You go to work by bus. → How do you go to work?
She travels to the office by train. → How does she travel to the office?
خودت امتحان کن: Farid: Hiroshi, ___ you get to school every day? Hiroshi: I walk. (How do / What time do / How often do) جواب: How do — Hiroshi با یه راهِ رفت‌وآمد جواب می‌ده، پیاده، پس کلمه‌ی سؤالی Howـه: How do you get to school? What time do ساعت رو می‌پرسه، و How often do تعدادِ دفعه‌ها رو. هیچ‌کدوم با «I walk.» جور نیست.
پرسیدنِ «کدوم»
Which از کسی می‌خواد از یه گروهِ کوچیک و مشخص یکی رو انتخاب کنه. وقتی واقعاً یه انتخاب جلوته، ازش استفاده کن.
You work mornings or afternoons. → Which shift do you work?
The office uses English and Spanish. → Which language do you use at work?
خودت امتحان کن: Interviewer: We have a morning van and an afternoon van. ___ (Which van do you want? / Where do you park the van? / What time do you drive the van?) جواب: Which van do you want? — دوتا ون با اسمِ مشخص پیشنهاد شده، صبح و بعدازظهر، و Which van do you want? از متقاضی می‌خواد یکی‌شون رو انتخاب کنه. Where do you park the van? درباره‌ی یه جا می‌پرسه، و What time do you drive the van? ساعت رو می‌پرسه؛ هیچ‌کدوم به انتخاب بین دوتا ونِ مشخص نمی‌خوره.
پرسیدنِ ساعت
برای پرسیدنِ یه ساعت روی ساعت، از What time استفاده کن.
You start work at nine. → What time do you start work?
The shop opens at ten. → What time does the shop open?
خودت امتحان کن: Interviewer: ___ do you finish work? Lars: At eight o'clock. (What time / How often / Which) جواب: What time — جواب یه ساعته، eight o'clock، پس سؤال What timeـه: What time do you finish work? How often تعدادِ دفعه‌ها رو می‌پرسه، نه ساعت رو، و Which قبل از یه اسم می‌آد، مثل Which shift، و یه گروه لازم داره که ازش انتخاب کنی؛ اینجا هیچ‌کدوم نیست.
