استخدم There is لشيء واحد. ترى ساعة واحدة، لذلك نقول There is a clock.

شيء واحد

• There is a clock on the wall.
• There is a library on Moffen Street.
• There is a park behind the library.
• Not "There are a clock on the wall." — say "There is a clock on the wall.". الشيء الواحد يأخذ is.
• جرّب بنفسك: Look at the picture. In this classroom ___. (there are two doors / there is one door / there are one door) الإجابة: there is one door — ترى في الصورة بابًا واحدًا، والشيء الواحد يأخذ is، لذلك الإجابة there is one door.

اثنان أو أكثر

انظر إلى الصورة. ترى حقيبتَي ظهر اثنتين، لذلك نقول There are two backpacks.

• There are two backpacks on the floor.
• There are two restaurants on this street.
• There are three stores near the bank.
• Not "There is two backpacks on the floor." — say "There are two backpacks on the floor.". الاثنان أو أكثر يأخذان are.
• جرّب بنفسك: Look at the picture. In this classroom ___. (there is one window / there are two windows / there is two windows) الإجابة: there are two windows — تعدّ في الصورة نافذتين، والاثنتان أكثر من واحدة، لذلك الإجابة there are two windows.

واحد أم أكثر من واحد؟

عُدّ أولًا. الشيء الواحد يأخذ is، و الاثنان أو أكثر يأخذان are.

• There are three books on the shelf.
• There is a whiteboard on the wall.
• There is one bank, and there are two stores.
• Not "There is three books on the shelf." — say "There are three books on the shelf.". عُدّ أولًا، ثم اختر is أو are.
• جرّب بنفسك: Look at the picture and count the desks. In this classroom ___. (there is one desk / there are four desks / there is four desks) الإجابة: there are four desks — تعدّ في الصورة أربعة مكاتب، والأربعة أكثر من واحد، لذلك الإجابة there are four desks.

السؤال

لتسأل، ضع is أو are أولًا: Is there...? Are there...?

• Is there a plant in the classroom? Yes, there is.
• Is there a bank near here?
• Are there two doors? No, there is one.
• Not "There is a plant in the classroom?" — say "Is there a plant in the classroom?". لتسأل، تأتي is أولًا.
• جرّب بنفسك: Amina: I want to know the time. ___ in this classroom? Teacher: Yes, there is. (Is there a clock / Are there a clock / There is a clock) الإجابة: Is there a clock — لتسأل عن شيء واحد، ضع is أولًا: Is there a clock؟ أما Are فلاثنين أو أكثر، وThere is a clock ليست سؤالًا.

لتقول إنّه غير موجود

لتقول إنّ شيئًا واحدًا غير موجود، استخدم There isn't. (isn't = is not.)

• There is a whiteboard, but there isn't a TV.
• There isn't a supermarket on this street.
• There is not a bus stop here. = There isn't a bus stop here.
• Not "There aren't a TV in the classroom." — say "There isn't a TV in the classroom.". الشيء الواحد يأخذ isn't.
• جرّب بنفسك: Look at the picture. On this wall ___. (there isn't a map / there isn't a clock / there aren't a map) الإجابة: there isn't a map — تُظهر الصورة ساعة وسبّورة على الحائط، لكن لا توجد خريطة، لذلك الإجابة there isn't a map. مع شيء واحد نستخدم isn't.

لتقول إنّها غير موجودة

لتقول إنّ اثنين أو أكثر غير موجودين، استخدم There aren't. (aren't = are not.)

• There aren't three windows. There are two.
• There aren't two libraries in Haffenville.
• There are not four stores. = There aren't four stores.
• Not "There isn't three windows in the classroom." — say "There aren't three windows in the classroom.". الاثنان أو أكثر يأخذان aren't.
• جرّب بنفسك: Diego: Are there four books on the shelf? Camila: No, look. ___ four books. (there aren't / there isn't / there are) الإجابة: there aren't — تعدّ في الصورة ثلاثة كتب، لا أربعة، إذن Diego مخطئ. وأربعة كتب أكثر من واحد، لذلك الإجابة there aren't.

استخدمها

انظر إلى الغرفة كلها وقل ما الموجود فيها وما غير الموجود.

• There are four desks in the classroom.
• There isn't a computer on the desks.
• Is there a whiteboard? Yes, there is.
• Not "Is it four desks in the classroom?" — say "Are there four desks in the classroom?". استخدم there is / there are لتقول ما الموجود في مكان ما.
• جرّب بنفسك: Farid: What is in the corner? Yasmin: ___. (There are two plants / There is one plant / There are one plant) الإجابة: There is one plant — ترى نبتة واحدة في الزاوية، والشيء الواحد يأخذ is، لذلك الإجابة There is one plant.
