always, usually, often, sometimes, never などのことばは頻度を表します。一般動詞の前に置きます。am, is, are と一緒に使うときは、それらの後ろに置きます。

Not "She arrives always on time." — say "She always arrives on time.". 頻度を表すことばは動詞の前に置きます：arrives always ではなく She always arrives です。

頻度を表すことばは、それぞれ割合が異なります。多い順に並べてみましょう：always = 100%（いつも） · usually = 約90%（たいてい） · often = 約70%（よく） · sometimes = 約50%（ときどき） · never = 0%（一度も〜ない）。
always (100%): I always lock the door — every single time.
usually (~90%): She usually walks to work, but now and then she takes the bus.
often (~70%): We often eat rice, but not every day.
sometimes (~50%): He sometimes plays football on the weekend.
never (0%): They never eat meat — not once.
Not "I sometimes brush my teeth every single morning." — say "I always brush my teeth every single morning.". always = 100%（いつも）、sometimes = 約50%（ときどき）。毎朝欠かさないなら sometimes ではなく always です。

carefully, quickly, well のようにどのように行うかを表すことばは、動詞の後ろに置きます。動詞の対象となるものや人が続く場合は、やり方を表すことばはその後ろにも置きます：reads the instructions carefully。

She sings beautifully.
Not "He speaks fluently Spanish." — say "He speaks Spanish fluently.". 動詞とその目的語の間にやり方を表すことばを挟んではいけません：speak Spanish fluently。

やってみよう: They finished the project ___. (easily / easy / easyly) 答え: easily — どのように終わらせたかを伝えるには、やり方を表すことばの easily を使います。「Easy」は an easy project のようにようすを表すことばであり、「easyly」は easy の語尾の y が i に変わって easily になるルールを見落としています。
well, fast, hard
一部のやり方を表すことばには -ly をつけません。これらを覚えましょう：good → well。また、fast と hard は -ly をつけずそのままの形で使います。注意：hardly は別の単語です。「ほとんど〜ない」という意味になるため、He works hard（彼は一生懸命働く）と He hardly works（彼はほとんど働かない）は正反対の意味になります。
She speaks English well.
He runs fast.
They work hard every day.
Not "She speaks English good." — say "She speaks English well.". 彼女がどのように話すかを伝えるには、good ではなく well を使います。
やってみよう: Hiroshi runs very ___. (fast / fastly / quick) 答え: fast — Hiroshi がどのように走るかを伝えるには、-ly がつかず形の変わらない fast を使います。「Fastly」という単語はなく、「quick」はようすを表すことばなので、やり方を表すことばにするなら quickly になります。
やってみよう: She sings ___ and she plays the guitar very ___. (beautifully … well / beautiful … good / beautifully … good) 答え: beautifully … well — どのように歌うかを伝えるには -ly をつけて beautifully にします。上手に何かを行うときのやり方を表すことばは good ではなく well です。good と beautiful はようすを表すことばであり、やり方を表すことばは well と beautifully です。
