Numbers: Tens (A1 Vocabulary)

These are the tens. twenty is 20, thirty is 30, forty is 40, fifty is 50.

Twenty to fifty

Try it: Choose the word: 30 (thirty / thirteen / fifty) Answer: thirty — 30 = thirty. Take care: thirty is 30, thirteen is 13.

The tens keep going up to one hundred. sixty is 60, seventy is 70, eighty is 80, ninety is 90, and one hundred is 100.

Try it: Choose the word: 60 (sixty / sixteen / eighty) Answer: sixty — 60 = sixty. Take care: sixty is 60, sixteen is 16.

To ask someone's age, say How old are you? To answer, say I'm and a number and years old.

Try it: Amina: How old are you, Hiroshi? Hiroshi: ___ And you? Choose Hiroshi's answer. (I'm twenty years old. / I have twenty years. / I'm twenty year old.) Answer: I'm twenty years old. — For age, English uses I'm and not "I have": the age goes with am, is, are. And after a number like twenty, years has the -s.
