Use There is for one thing.

There is = one

There are = more than one

Use There are for two or more.

Asking

To ask, put is / are first: Is there...? Are there...?

There isn't = not one

For not one, use There isn't. (isn't = is not.)

There aren't = not two or more

For two or more that do NOT exist, use There aren't. (aren't = are not.)
