Possessive 's (A1 Grammar)
Add 's to show something belongs to someone.
Quick tip: Singular='s, Plural ending -s=', Irregular plural='s
Singular: add 's
Add 's after the person or thing.
- Ethan's car
- my sister's room
- the dog's tail
Plural ending in -s: add '
Just add apostrophe after the -s.
- my parents' house
- the students' books
- the teachers' room
Irregular plurals: add 's
Children, men, women don't end in -s, so add 's.
- children's toys
- men's clothes
- women's shoes
Common mistakes
- Not "My sister room" — say "My sister's room". Need 's to show possession.
- Not "The students's books" — say "The students' books". Plural -s: just add '.
- Not "The childrens' toys" — say "The children's toys". Children doesn't end in -s.
