Adjective Order (A1 Grammar)
When using two adjectives: SIZE + COLOR + noun.
Quick tip: SIZE + COLOR + noun. A big red car, NOT a red big car.
Size + Color + Noun
Size always comes before color.
- a big red car ✓
- a small blue bag ✓
- a large green apple ✓
Size Adjectives
Words for how big or small something is.
- big, large, huge (large)
- small, little, tiny (small)
- long, short, tall (length/height)
Color Adjectives
Words for what color something is. Always after size.
- red, blue, green, yellow
- black, white, brown, pink
- a big blue ball
Common mistakes
- Not "a red big car" — say "a big red car". Size before color.
- Not "a blue small ball" — say "a small blue ball". Size before color.
- Not "a green large apple" — say "a large green apple". Size before color.
Practise it
Size first, then color: big/small first, then red/blue.
