比较级：Bigger、faster、more careful (A2)

短形容词加 -er，再用 than：old → older than，cheap → cheaper than。

短形容词：-er than

• Apples are cheaper than bananas here.
• Your bag is older than my bag.
• Not "Apples are more cheap than bananas." — say "Apples are cheaper than bananas.". 短形容词加 -er，不用 more。
• 试一试: Sofia: Is your friend's son fifteen? Ethan: No, he's ___ than that. He's only ten. 选出 Ethan 会说的话。 (older / biger / younger) 答案: younger — 十岁比十五岁小，所以他更年轻：younger。

bigger、hotter、happier：拼写变化

有些词要稍微变一下。big → bigger，hot → hotter：最后一个字母要写两次。happy → happier：y 变成 ier。

• July is hotter than May.

长形容词：more ... than

长形容词前面加 more，再用 than：more modern than，more popular than。

• Not "The new mall is moderner than the old one." — say "The new mall is more modern than the old one.". 长形容词用 more，不加 -er。

better、worse、farther：特殊形式

有三个词的形式完全不一样：good → better，bad → worse，far → farther 或 further，两个都可以。

比较别人怎么做事：fast → faster than，carefully → more carefully than。

much bigger、a lot cheaper：差别很大

想说差别很大，就在前面加 much 或 a lot：much bigger，a lot cheaper。

• This bag is a lot bigger than that one.
• The city is much noisier than my town.
• Not "This bag is very bigger than that one." — say "This bag is much bigger than that one.". much 或 a lot 要放在 -er 形容词前面，不用 very。
• 试一试: Sofia: How's the new elevator? Ethan: Great! It's ___ faster. I don't wait at all now. 选出 Ethan 会说的话。 (a little / a lot / very) 答案: a lot — Ethan 现在一点都不用等了，所以电梯快多了：a lot faster。

该用哪种形式？

短形容词加 -er，长形容词用 more。good、bad、far 要变成 better、worse、farther。

• The blue shirt is nicer and cheaper, but the red one is more popular.
