Use might ou may + o verbo no infinitivo quando algo é possível mas você não tem certeza. Elas significam a mesma coisa (may é um pouco mais formal). Não tem to, e não tem -s.
might / may = talvez
I might go to the party. (I'm not sure yet)
She may be late.
It might rain this afternoon.
Not "I might to go to the party." — say "I might go to the party.". Sem to depois de might: só might + o verbo no infinitivo.
Experimente: Take an umbrella, it ___ rain later. (might / mights / might to) Resposta: might — Might nunca muda e não leva to: it might rain. "Mights" acrescenta um -s que might nunca tem, e "might to" acrescenta um to que ele não precisa.
might not / may not = talvez não
Para dizer que talvez não, use might not ou may not + o verbo no infinitivo.
I might not come tonight.
She may not know the answer.
They might not have time.
Experimente: I'm not sure about tonight. I ___ come. (might not / don't might / might not to) Resposta: might not — Para dizer que talvez não, use might not + o verbo no infinitivo: I might not come. "Don't might" não é uma forma real, e não tem to depois.
certeza (will) ou só possível (might)?
Use will quando você acha que algo certamente vai acontecer. Use might / may quando é só possível, você não tem certeza.
It will rain. (I think it definitely will.)
It might rain. (Possible, but I'm not sure.)
She will pass. (I'm confident) / She might pass. (not sure)
Experimente: Hiroshi olha o horário. O trem sempre sai às 9 e nunca atrasa. Ele tem certeza absoluta. Qual combina quando ele tem certeza? (The train will leave at 9. / The train might leave at 9.) Resposta: The train will leave at 9. — Ele tem certeza absoluta (nunca atrasa), então use will: The train will leave at 9. "Might leave" significaria que ele não tem certeza, mas ele tem.
Experimente: Amina ainda não decidiu sobre a festa. Talvez ela vá, talvez não. Ela realmente não tem certeza. Qual combina quando ela não tem certeza? (She might go to the party. / She will go to the party.) Resposta: She might go to the party. — Ela não decidiu e não tem certeza, então use might: She might go. "She will go" significaria que é certo, mas ela realmente não decidiu.
