Mixed time references combine different time periods in the same sentence - linking past conditions with present results, or present conditions with past results. This is similar to mixed conditionals but focuses specifically on the time relationship and how actions in one time affect another.
Practice tip: Identify the time of condition and result. Past → Present: had...would be. Present → Past: were...would have. Add time markers!
