PAST CONTINUOUS & PAST SIMPLE (A2 Grammar)

Use Past Continuous for longer background actions and Past Simple for shorter interrupting actions.

Quick tip: WHILE + longer action (was doing). WHEN + shorter action (did). Think: background vs interruption.

Form: WAS/WERE + verb-ING

Was with I/he/she/it. Were with you/we/they.

WHILE + Past Continuous (longer action)

Use while with the longer background action.

WHEN + Past Simple (shorter action)

Use when with the shorter interrupting action.
