Les pronoms réfléchis (reflexive pronouns) se terminent par -self ou -selves. Pour une seule personne ou chose : myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself. Pour plusieurs : ourselves, yourselves, themselves.
-self et -selves
The cat is washing itself.
The children dressed themselves.
Essaie: Man: How was the party? Woman: Great! The kids really enjoyed ___. Choisis ce que dit la femme. (them / ourselves / themselves) Réponse: themselves — Les enfants se sont bien amusés, donc on dit : they enjoyed themselves.
Renvoie à la même personne
Quand quelqu’un fait quelque chose à lui-même, c’est-à-dire à la même personne (the same person), utilise un pronom réfléchi (reflexive pronoun : myself, yourself…) : I hurt myself.
I hurt myself.
He's talking to himself.
Not "I hurt me." — say "I hurt myself.". C’est la même personne qui le fait et qui se fait mal, donc myself.
Essaie: Woman: You made dinner for everyone? Man: Yes, and I made ___ a big dessert, too! Choisis ce que dit l’homme. (me / myself / yourself) Réponse: myself — Il a fait le dessert pour la même personne, lui-même, donc il dit myself.
Tout seul : by myself
Dis by myself quand tu fais quelque chose sans personne. Ça marche avec tous les pronoms réfléchis : by yourself, by herself, by ourselves.
I like to walk by myself.
Can you do it by yourself?
Essaie: Man: Is anyone going with you to the concert? Woman: No, I'm going ___. That's fine! Choisis ce que dit la femme. (with my sister / by myself / by yourself) Réponse: by myself — Personne ne va avec elle, donc elle dit by myself.
La même personne, ou quelqu’un d’autre ?
La même personne : un pronom réfléchi (myself, herself, themselves). Quelqu’un d’autre : un pronom complément (me, her, them).
She looked at herself in the mirror. (the same woman)
She looked at her and said hello. (another woman)
Essaie: Woman: Why is your sister so happy? Man: Her husband bought ___ some flowers. Choisis ce que dit l’homme. (herself / her / himself) Réponse: her — Les fleurs sont pour quelqu’un d’autre, sa sœur, donc il dit her.
