الثلاثة كلها موافقة، لكن بدرجات مختلفة. I completely agree تعني أنك توافق تمامًا، على كل ما قاله الشخص — وهي الأقوى وهي محايدة، فتصلح في أي موقف. You've got a point ودّية وغير رسمية؛ تعني أنك توافق على شيء واحد قاله، لا على كل كلامه. I see what you mean لطيفة ومحايدة؛ تعني أنك تفهم فكرته وتوافق جزئيًا، وكثيرًا ما تأتي قبل «لكن» صغيرة.
الموافقة
I completely agree — I completely agree. Trains are better.
You've got a point — You've got a point about the price.
I see what you mean — I see what you mean.
Not "I completely agree, but the price is too high." — say "You've got a point, but the price is too high.". استخدم I completely agree فقط عندما توافق على كل شيء. أمّا إذا وافقت على جزء واحد فقط وأردت إضافة 'but'، فقل You've got a point.

الاختلاف بلطف
الثلاثة كلها اعتراض، لكن بلطف — من اللطيف إلى الألطف. I'm afraid I disagree تقول بوضوح إنك لا توافق؛ وعبارة «I'm afraid» تجعلها مهذّبة فقط، فتصلح حتى في الحديث الرسمي. I don't really agree طريقة أليَن وأقل رسمية لقول الشيء نفسه. I'm not sure about that هي الألطف: تعني أن لديك شكوكًا في الفكرة، لا رفضًا قاطعًا.
I'm afraid I disagree — I'm afraid I disagree about the time.
I don't really agree — I don't really agree with that.
I'm not sure about that — I'm not sure about that.
Not "No, you're wrong." — say "I'm afraid I disagree.". في الإنجليزية نلطّف الاختلاف في الرأي. عبارة 'you're wrong' المباشرة تبدو فظّة — أمّا I'm afraid I disagree فتقول الشيء نفسه بتهذيب.

(You've got a point. / I completely agree. / I'm afraid I disagree.) الإجابة: You've got a point. — You've got a point توافق على جزء واحد فقط — هنا، أن الفيلم كان طويلًا جدًا — لذلك تناسب الموافقة على جزء فقط ممّا قالته Amina. أمّا I completely agree فتعني أنك توافق على كل شيء، بما في ذلك أنه كان جيدًا، وI'm afraid I disagree تعني أنك لا توافق إطلاقًا، فلا تناسب أيٌّ منهما الموافقة الجزئية.
قويّ ولطيف ومباشر أكثر من اللازم
تختلف هذه الردود في قوّة نبرتها. موافقة قوية: Absolutely! وI couldn't agree more وThat's so true! وموافقة لطيفة: You're right وI suppose so (توافق، لكن بلا حماس). واعتراض مؤدَّب: I see it differently وI don't think so وI have to disagree. واحفظ No way! وThat's not true وYou're wrong للأصدقاء — فهي مباشرة أكثر من اللازم مع شخص لا تعرفه أو مع مديرك.
