used to + الفعل المجرّد
I used to play tennis. (but I stopped)
Amina used to live near the harbor. (now she lives downtown)
We used to walk to school every day.
Not "I use to play tennis." — say "I used to play tennis.". هنا توجد -d: used to.
Amina ___ live near the harbor, but now she lives downtown. (used to / use to / uses to) الإجابة: used to — لشيء كان صحيحًا في الماضي ثم تغيّر، استخدم used to، مع الـ -d. "Use to" (بلا -d) و"uses to" ليستا صيغة الماضي هنا: she used to live there.
didn't use to
بعد didn't، أسقط الـ -d: تصبح use to، وليست "used to".
I didn't use to like coffee. (now I do)
She didn't use to study hard.
We didn't use to have a car.
Not "I didn't used to like coffee." — say "I didn't use to like coffee.". بعد didn't، لا توجد -d: didn't use to.
I ___ like coffee, but now I drink it every day. (didn't use to / didn't used to / don't use to) الإجابة: didn't use to — الكلمات صحيحة، لكن بعد didn't لا توجد -d: didn't use to (وليس "didn't used to").
Did you use to ...?
مرة أخرى، بعد Did، تكون use to بلا -d.
Did you use to play tennis?
Did she use to live here?
Where did you use to work?
جرّب بنفسك: ___ you use to play tennis? (Did / Do / Were) الإجابة: Did — للسؤال عن الماضي، ابدأ بـ Did: Did you use to play tennis? "Do" تكون للحاضر، و"Were" لما كان عليه شخص، لا لما كان يفعله.
جرّب بنفسك: She ___ smoke, but she ___ exercise much — she never went to the gym back then. (used to … didn't use to / use to … didn't used to / used to … didn't used to) الإجابة: used to … didn't use to — بمفردها تحتفظ بالـ -d: used to smoke. لكن بجانب didn't، تختفي الـ -d: didn't use to.
