絵を見てみましょう。お店とスーパーマーケットが横に並んでいるので、next to と言います。

すぐ隣

• next to — The store is next to the supermarket.

• Not "The store is in next to the supermarket." — say "The store is next to the supermarket.". 前に何もつけず、next to だけです。

前側、通りに面したところ

絵を見てみましょう。バス停は図書館の前側、通りに面したところにあるので、in front of と言います。

• Not "The bus stop is front of the library." — say "The bus stop is in front of the library.". 3つの単語をすべてそろえて言います：in front of。

両側に1つずつ

絵を見てみましょう。銀行の片側に薬局、もう片側にレストランがあるので、between と言います。

• Not "The bank is between the pharmacy." — say "The bank is between the pharmacy and the restaurant.". between には、両側に1つずつ、2つの場所が必要です。

うしろ側

絵を見てみましょう。公園は図書館のうしろ側にあるので、behind と言います。あとに "of" はつけません。

• Not "The park is behind of the library." — say "The park is behind the library.". behind だけで、あとに "of" はつけません。

どこにありますか？

場所をたずねるときは、Where is + 場所？と言います。答えは It is + これらのことばの1つ + もう1つの場所です。

• Where is the bank? It is between the pharmacy and the restaurant.
• Where is the bus stop? It is in front of the library.
• Where are the stores? They are on Moffen Street.
• Not "Where is the bank? Between." — say "Where is the bank? It is between the pharmacy and the restaurant.". 答えには、ことばだけでなく、ほかの場所も必要です。
